Railway NTPC current recruitment provides employment opportunities to those who are looking for a government job in Indian Railways. The Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) examination is conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) for the posts in Graduate and 12th level. Those who are preparing for a Sarkari Naukri in 2027 should know the exam pattern and follow the syllabus, solve mock test papers and keep all the necessary documents ready. A good study plan, which is focused based on educational qualification and requirements of official notification, can help to increase accuracy, speed and overall performance of the exam.

1. Understand Railway NTPC Graduate and 12th Level Posts

Candidates must pick up the category NTPC based on their educational qualification and verify from the notification of RRB regarding eligibility criteria and available vacancy positions.

  • Graduate Level consider Goods Train Manager, Chief Commercial-cum-Ticket Supervisor, Junior Account Assistant-cum-Typist and Senior Clerk-cum-Typist.

  • 12th Level (Undergraduate): Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Clerk-cum-Typist and Trains Clerk.

Generally, graduate level jobs need recognized graduation whereas undergraduate level jobs need Class 12. Skill tests will be conducted for typing based jobs, and aptitude test will be conducted for Station Masters, as per the notification.

2. Know the Railway NTPC Exam Pattern

The usual selection procedure for NTPC consists of Computer-Based Test (CBT) Stage I and Computer-Based Test (CBT) Stage II. Depending upon the nature of the post, candidates would also have to clear the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) and typing speed test along with document verification and medical test.

  • General Awareness: 40 questions – 40 marks

  • Mathematics: 30 questions – 30 marks

  • Reasoning: 30 questions – 30 marks

  • Total: 100 questions – 100 marks

CBT Stage I is usually held for 90 minutes, with a provision of more time for the candidates who qualify to get scribe assistance, as mentioned in the notification. CBT Stage II usually comprises 120 questions for 120 marks, comprising 50 questions from Gen. Awareness, 35 from Mathematics, and 35 from Reasoning, which need to be attempted within 90 minutes. The usual scheme has negative marking of one third mark per wrong answer.

3. Check the Latest Railway NTPC Recruitment 2026 Updates

As of October 2026, the RRB NTPC Recruitment is going on for both graduate and undergraduate level candidates. The following current notification can help the candidates understand the eligibility criteria and preparation requirements to prepare for 2027.

  • For graduate level recruitment: CEN 06/2026 has released 3,548 vacancies. Applications started from 8th October and will be closing on 6th November 2026.

  • For undergraduates level recruitment: CEN 07/2026 has released 1,688 vacancies. Applications started from 15th October and will be closing on 13th November 2026.

4. Prepare Mathematics with Regular Practice

Mathematics can become a scoring subject when candidates practise consistently. Start with basic concepts and gradually move towards timed questions.

Important topics include:

  • Number system, simplification and decimals

  • Fractions, percentages and ratios

  • Profit and loss, averages and interest

  • Time and work, pipes and cisterns

  • Time, speed and distance

  • Algebra, geometry and mensuration

  • Elementary statistics and data interpretation

Spend 45–60 minutes daily solving questions. Maintain a notebook of incorrect answers and revise the methods that repeatedly cause mistakes.

5. Strengthen Reasoning and General Awareness

General Intelligence and Reasoning requires accuracy and speed. Practice series, coding-decoding, analogies, syllogisms, blood relations, direction tests, puzzles and classification. Start with untimed questions and gradually introduce time limits.

For General Awareness, study Indian history, geography, polity, economics, general science, government schemes, sports, awards and current affairs. Prepare monthly current affairs notes and revise them regularly. Use previous-year questions to identify important topics, but cover the complete syllabus instead of relying only on quizzes and videos.

6. Follow a Practical Daily Study Timetable

Candidates preparing along with college and/or work and other commitments must develop a schedule which is practical and follows all the time.

  • Mathematics: 60 minutes

  • Reasoning: 45 minutes

  • General Awareness and Science: 60 minutes

  • Current Affairs Revision: 20 minutes

  • Previous-Year Questions and Error Analysis: 35 minutes

  • Total Study Time: 3 hours 40 minutes

7. Solve Previous-Year Papers and Take Mock Tests

The Previous Year Question Papers will help the candidate to know about the difficulty level, pattern of questions and time constraints in the NTPC exam. Start solving these question papers after completing the basics of each subject.

Follow this approach:

  1. Solve topic-wise question papers for improving concepts.

  2. Take at least one complete Mock Test weekly while preparing for the first time.

  3. Increase the number of Mock Tests as the exam approaches.

  4. Analyse the wrong answers and difficult questions.

  5. Revise the mistakes made and then attempt another test.

Try to practice using the appropriate CBT Stage 1 & Stage 2 Patterns. Don’t assess yourself just on the basis of the Mock Test results.

8. Prepare for Typing and Aptitude Tests Where Required

For certain NTPC positions, there is another test as a qualifier. Typing-related positions require candidates to attain speed and efficiency in typing in the language mentioned in the notification. It is better to keep on practicing typing through a keyboard than doing a few sessions at once.

Computer Based Aptitude Test would only apply if the candidate finds it specified for his or her position in that particular cycle. Candidates have to look into the applicable selection process rather than assuming that all NTPC positions have similar processes. In this regard, it is advisable to refer to the 2026 graduates' notification.

9. Keep Documents and Eligibility Details Ready

Be prepared with your educational certificates, identity proof, photograph, signature and certificate of relevant category before submitting the application.

Verify the following information carefully:

  • Age limit and important date.

  • Educational qualification and minimum marks.

  • Medical requirement for each post.

  • Typing/ aptitude test eligibility.

  • Accuracy of personal details on all documents.

Read the official notification/corrigendum prior to form submission. Visit websites of various RRBs for status of application, admit card, exam notice and result.

Conclusion

Railway NTPC Graduate and 12th Level Railway Jobs Preparation for the year 2027 involves knowledge of eligibility criteria and having a well-designed schedule along with taking mock tests periodically. It is essential for the candidates to improve their Mathematics, Reasoning, and General Awareness skills, along with preparation for any further qualifying exams required for their desired posts.
