Brothers Mayank and Bhuvan Nagori are the visionary founders of Gud Gum. Their deep concern for the environment served as the catalyst for launching this venture. Mayank, who used to chew gum extensively during his exams, decided to quit after reading an enlightening article about the predominant use of plastic in chewing gum production.
Years later, while pursuing his Master's degree, he discovered a US-based company that manufactured biodegradable chewing gum. This encounter sparked the idea to create a similar product tailored to the Indian market.
In 2022, amidst the peak of the pandemic, the Nagori brothers unveiled Gud Gum. The company's core focus is to minimize gum waste by providing plastic-free, fully biodegradable, and all-natural chewing gum. Their gum is crafted from chicory tree gum base, a plant-derived sap that decomposes within a few months or weeks, depending on the soil's bacterial composition.
Gud Gum stands out for its commitment to environmental and natural health. By employing ingredients such as stevia, fruit pulps, and natural fruit colors, they have eliminated artificial additives, colors, and flavors from their product.
Since its inception, Gud Gum has sold over 500,000 pieces of gum, preventing approximately 700 kg of gum plastic from polluting the planet.
Mayank explains that the use of natural ingredients and plant-based sap results in a slightly higher cost compared to regular chewing gum, with a price of nearly Rs 6 per piece, as opposed to Rs 1 for conventional gum.
Incubated by NSRCEL-IIMB, Gud Gum achieved a revenue of six lakhs Rupees in the previous month.
